HOW TO MEASURE IT

1Lie flat on your back, both legs straight out.
2Have the knee bent for you, and stop where it stops — not where the pain does.
3Read the angle against the shin with a long-arm goniometer.
4Same time of day, same person, every time.

The position and the instrument are the ones the ten-year weight-bearing trial used, which assessed knee range supine with a long-arm goniometer. That trial measured active range; whether the bending is done for you is this site's own distinction and not the trial's.
